Why Woopsidaisy exists
It started with a simple question: why does no one explain where these crazy expressions come from? Kids use them. Kids hear them. Kids have absolutely no idea what they mean.
English is full of idioms— expressions that mean something completely different from their words. "Spill the beans." "Hit the hay." "Miss the boat." Adults use them constantly without thinking. Kids hear them and quietly wonder what on earth anyone is talking about.
Woopsidaisy was created to close that gap — not with a dictionary or a worksheet, but with a character. Woopsi Daisyis a loveable, well-meaning troublemaker who somehow always finds herself at the centre of the idiom. She doesn't just describe "barking up the wrong tree" — she does it, with full illustrated chaos.
Each story is short enough for bedtime and funny enough that parents don't mind reading it twice. The idiom lands. The laugh lands. And somewhere between the two, a child's vocabulary quietly grows.
What we believe
Our approach
Language through story
Idioms are everywhere — in conversation, books, sport, news. Kids who understand them read faster, listen better, and communicate more naturally. We built Woopsidaisy to make that learning feel like play.
Illustrations that do the work
Every Woopsi Daisy book pairs a playful illustrated scene with the literal meaning of the idiom — so kids see "fell off the wagon" and the phrase becomes a picture, not just words.
Made for reading aloud
We designed each story for the sofa, not a screen. Short enough for bedtime, funny enough that parents enjoy it too. The best reading moments happen together.
A book every two weeks
Rather than overwhelming families with a library of hundreds, we drip one new story every 14 days. Each one lands fresh, gets read, and earns its place on the shelf.
